Original and handwritten blue abstractions: geometric figures, contemporary works by Catherine de Saugy.
In 2022, Catherine de Saugy inaugurated a new series titled Blue Abstract Figures, where geometry and color combine in contemporary painting that is both conceptual and sensitive. These abstract works on Canson paper are built around numerical and geometric forms—numbers, signs, and traced lines—that the artist diverts from their primary function to turn into visual motifs charged with rhythm and energy.
Dominated by a palette of deep blues, from vibrant cyan to midnight blue, the series explores the expressive power of this universal color. Each blue abstract work becomes a field of vibration where light and chromatic density converse with the rigor of line. Through this choice, Catherine de Saugy situates her practice within the tradition of geometric abstraction while infusing it with a contemporary sensibility nourished by a digital aesthetic.
The notion of a blue numeric vocabulary takes on full meaning here: the artist draws on the language of numbers and signs, transcending it into a poetic, open, and free lexicon.
